For me, the number one thing that should be right in a photograph is its focus.
That depends on what type of image the photographer is going for, of course.
If you are shooting race cars at high speed, it is acceptable to have a slight blur effect to show the speed but the vehicle itself, should be sharp. if it is a landscape or portrait of any kind, I like to see that the image is sharp and well executed.
